In the middle of this seafaring quarter rises majestically the avant-garde structure of the church of Mare de Déu with its roof, in the shape of a boat keel. The medieval past of the population is visible in each of the corners of the Historic Quarter. Amongst the monuments, it is worth mentioning the Church – Fortress of San Bertolomé dating to the 15th century in Elizabethan Gothic style and declared a National Artistic Monument. The Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum occupies a beautiful gothic palace of the XV century. The excellent climate and the geographical situation, between sea and mountain, make Jávea an ideal place all year round for sports lovers.
